Sea Shanties were shipboard working songs, still sung by seafarers today. They served a practical purpose: the flow of the song gave rythum to the movements of the sailors as they toiled at repetitive tasks. They also served toalleviate boredom, and lighten the burden of hard work, of which therewas no shortage on long voyages.
