Welcome to Bristol Pilot Gig Club

A Pilot Gig boat is a traditionally built, 6-oared, sea going, rowing boat, that was developed for the purpose of rowing out to meet large sailing vessels in the western approaches so a pilot could be put aboard to help guide the boat into port.

Today Pilot Gig racing is a sport. It's home is the West Country but it attracts clubs from other European countries and the USA. The picture above shows one of our teams competing in Isambard (one of two boats) in the 2008 world championship in the Scillies.
